About the Artist, Krista Shiner
The arts and sciences have been an integral part of Krista’s lifelong soul path. An affinity for natural environments, the healing arts, and the vast realms of the biological and metaphysical sciences are inherent in all of her work. Raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan sparked and nurtured these interests while providing space for inquiry and exploration of many art forms outside of a city environment.
Artist statement
Ethereal forms and symbols of expressive line, space, depth of color, and texture are intuitively placed in relation to the whole. Her processes of layering acrylic, oil, and metal paints with patina are synonymous with the attributes of the earth and the cosmos. Natural found objects such as wood, crystals, bone, and fruit bodies act as catalysts of energy transforming the canvas into the 3D realm. Her fondness of the natural environment is evident in each work bridging realism and abstract expressionism.
Techniques
I utilize a combination of acrylic, oil, and metal based paints, textural mediums, and natural found objects such as wood, bone, and crystals. I achieve an array of organic colors with the use of patinas. My Bend collection of paintings borderline sculpture where the framing becomes part of the piece.
