An abstract mixed media painting on canvas comprised of oil paint, found natural objects, and controlled rust patina with iron paint. 95% of the rust colors are actual rust and some of the turquoise colors are too. The original painting is framed with hand-tooled oak wood from the Amish country on the East Coast. The back is reinforced with a thin sheet of plywood and installed wire ready for hanging
This piece was created during fall in Colorado and inspired by the various colors of leaves floating in a river. There is reflection of the trees where the leaves fell from underlying. A time of metamorphosis where the leaves change color, let loose from the trees, and become one with the ground or water. A cycle of life in one living form reflected in a pool of life giving water. It is mesmerizing to watch the swirls of colorful leaves making their way through the water.
I wanted it to immerse the viewer in the feeling of the earth with the color palette and shifting forms. The inclusion of natural found objects as pieces stumbling and surfacing out of the water amidst the leaves.
