I took pictures of the rainbow painted eucalyptus tree on one of my trips to Maui, Hawaii while on my way to Hana with a fellow explorer, they are so magical. The small forest of these trees were glowing and my heart was in absolute awe of this amazing trees' beautiful array of colors. It really looks like they are painted where the colors meld into one another and pieces of bark falling off to reveal a multitude of colors and tones.
I wanted to recreate some of the textural aspects and portray the magic of this tree so I included clear quartz pieces, natural green reed, and utilized foam and concrete for a 3d effect protruding above the 3" deep canvas. I utilized one of my favorite processes in this collection of pieces involving iron paint with controlled oxidation to capture the red and rust colors of the tree. Organic creation mimicking the colors and the very process of the bark coming off itself. A metamorphosis of colors. 30" x 40" x 3" deep
